Welcome To CornwallGiveaway

Don’t throw it away – Give it away!

You may not want that old sofa or tea set any more – but there might be someone just round the corner who does.

Lurking in sheds, attics and cupboards all over Cornwall are items that are too good to throw away, but are not loved or needed any more, things we don’t WANT to throw away but don’t have the space to keep or maintain. Things someone else could get much more enjoyment out of.

Our Goal is to join people who have things they want to get rid of with people who can use them and to keep usable items out of landfills.

Cornwallgiveaway is a free network of local towns/groups where you can give stuff away when you want to get rid of it – but don’t want to throw it away because it still has some useful life left in it.

Or if there’s something you’d like, perhaps someone has just what you need that they don’t want any more.

Unwanted items are getting reused in their communities via cornwallgiveaway.

Everyone and any organisation are welcome to join.
It’s free to sign up, then post a message with an OFFER of something you want to get rid of, or a WANTED message for something you need.

Guidelines
You must act responsibly and to treat other users with respect. Users must not use the group to harass or abuse other users.  It's all about treating other users with respect and helping each other.

Keep it appropriate for all ages

No pornography, no politics, no spam, no money, no personal attacks, no religion, no alcohol, no tobacco, no drugs, no counterfeit items, no stolen property, no police-related items, no firearms or other weapons etc.

Users that break the group rules will be warned once and posts removed, repeat offending will result in a ban.

Subject line of your post

Please keep your message subject or title lines short & simple. All messages will be either an Offer or a Wanted, then say what your item is (e.g sofa, television etc.), and end with your location. Other members want to know where you are before they give you something for free or ask for something. Remember: OFFER or WANTED : Item (Location)

Please describe your items honestly and with detail in the main body of your message.

• OFFER: computer (Your General Location)
• WANTED: computer, any condition. (Your General Location)

Tips on how to post an item

• When posting, write offer/wanted in the subject line first so everyone is clear what kind of post it is.
• Don't put your phone number on the forum or it will ring off the hook & you put yourself at risk of nuisance calls.
• Any exchange of address and phone number should be done by email or private message.
• It's a first-come, first serve type of thing and is up to the original poster who receives the item.
• Once your item is gone, update your post with taken/received so you don’t keep receiving emails for something you don’t have or offers for something you no longer need.
• Always state what area you live in. People need to know whether they have the means to get to your place to pick up the item.

Item collection

Please be considerate – turn up to collect when you say you will or call before the agreed time to re-arrange if you have to change your plans.

Safety

Be aware! It is up to each individual member of CornwallGiveaway, when arranging for collection of the item being given away to be appropriately aware of the potential risk of having "a stranger" come to your home. CornwallGiveaway assumes no responsibility for this risk. You may want to arrange to meet in a public place. Please don’t post addresses or phone numbers on the main posts, keep this to private messages or emails.

Arrange pick up

Arrange pickup with one person only, rather than "it's in the garden, whoever gets here first gets it." Otherwise you'll become unpopular pretty fast with other members.

Don't

Please don’t ask for or offer money for stuff. All items posted must be completely free.
Please don't send spam. Respect the groups and your fellow members email addresses. If you spam the forum you will be banned.
Be polite

Be polite in your messages to other group members. If something happens you object to, please email your group moderators.

Don’t forget that if you don’t tell moderators that something is going wrong, then they’ll find it hard to help.
